Elizabeth A Urbanski
For twenty-five years, Elizabeth have been an independent art and design consultant advising corporate and private clients on the acquisition and maintenance of contemporary fine art collections in public and private spaces. Elizabeth acquires artwork for Fortune 500 companies including Pfizer, Inc. where she advised on the acquisitions of art for several international divisions. She works with architects such as HLW and The Rockwell Group, where she acquired artwork for a 500 room casino hotel. A significant ongoing project is the creation of a contemporary art collection for noted philanthropists Marilyn and Jim Simon’s private charitable foundation — the Simons Foundation and the Flatiron Institute in NYC.
Elizabeth Urbanski served as the art curator of the Port Authority of NY & NJ which has an extensive corporate and public art collection. In this capacity she oversaw all aspects of collections management and helped research and present artists' proposals for large scale site specific public commissions through their 1% for art program. She created a program for rotating artwork in the Port Authority’s public spaces such as Laguardia and Kennedy Airports.
A Smith College graduate, Elizabeth Urbanski continued her academic studies with graduate work in art history at Harvard University and has a M.A. in visual art administration from New York University and a M.A. in art history from Columbia University. Her M.A. thesis from NYU addressed theoretical and market based matters raised in contemporary art made of ephemeral material and her M.A. thesis in art history at Columbia University examined Robert Smithson's photographic displacements in relationship to his land art. Elizabeth gave a well received TEDx talk on Selfies entitled “Selfies: a Visual Analysis” which compared these instant self portraits to art historical precedents. She is a member of Art Table and the Association of Professional Art Advisors, both based in New York City.
